Change Chrome’s Ad Settings

Start with Chrome’s privacy and security settings. Open Chrome, select the three-dot menu, then go to Settings. From there, look through the privacy and site settings related to intrusive advertising.

Block Pop-Ups First

• Pop-up windows stay out of your way, which makes browsing feel much less jumpy.

• The setting is already inside Chrome, so there’s nothing extra sitting in your browser toolbar.

• Some websites need pop-ups for useful features, but Chrome lets you allow them for specific sites when necessary.

Turn Down Intrusive Ads

Chrome also has controls for intrusive advertising. These settings are worth checking if certain websites keep throwing oversized ads across the screen or playing content in ways you didn’t ask for.

You won’t suddenly block every advertisement. That’s important. Chrome’s built-in controls are aimed at the worst behavior rather than advertising as a whole.

And honestly, I prefer this approach if you’re trying to keep your browser simple. Extensions can be excellent, but another extension means another thing to update and troubleshoot when a website suddenly behaves oddly.
