Then you realize it was actually your delivery driver, your bank, or someone you forgot to save. Annoying.

Start With Your Phone App

Open the Phone app first. On most Android phones, tap the three-dot menu and look for Settings. From there, find something like Blocked numbers or Call blocking. The wording changes between brands, so don’t worry if your screen doesn’t match a friend’s phone.

On an iPhone, open Settings and go to Phone. Then look for Blocked Contacts. You’ll see the numbers you’ve blocked there.

Find the Number You Want Back

Take a second here. It’s easy to unblock the wrong number when several unknown callers are sitting in the list.

On Android, tap the number and choose the option to unblock it. Some phones show a small minus sign instead. On iPhone, swipe left on the blocked contact and tap Unblock.

Once you’ve done that, calls from the number should come through normally again. If the person also sends texts, those should work after the block is removed.

A Quick Real-Life Example

Raj once blocked a number after getting several calls during lunch. A few days later, he realized it was the number his apartment security desk used. He stopped reopening the same five tabs every morning trying to figure out who had called and simply removed the block.

If Calls Still Don’t Come Through

Check these settings if the call keeps disappearing:

• Spam protection is still active, which is worth checking if other unknown calls are also being filtered.

• The number appears in your blocked list under a different format, such as with the country code added.

• Do Not Disturb is on, and honestly, this one gets overlooked all the time.

• Your carrier’s call filter is catching it before your phone ever sees the call.

Give It One Test Call

After unblocking the number, ask the person to call you once. That’s easier than waiting around and wondering whether the change worked.

If the test call comes through, you’re done. If it doesn’t, check the phone’s spam settings before blocking and unblocking the same number five more times. That usually isn’t the problem.

Sometimes a number gets blocked for a good reason.
