Then a video decides it deserves your attention before you've even found ">

Start With Chrome’s Ad Settings

Open Chrome on your computer and click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner. Select Settings. From there, open Privacy and security, then look for Site settings. You’ll find the controls that decide what websites are allowed to do in your browser.

What Chrome Actually Blocks

This is where expectations matter. Chrome doesn’t work like a full ad-blocking extension. It focuses on advertising that creates a particularly poor browsing experience rather than wiping every ad from every page.

• Pop-up style ads that cover the page can get blocked, especially when the site has a history of intrusive advertising.

• Ads that interfere with reading are the real target here, although normal ads can still appear.

• No extension required, which honestly makes this the better first step if you just want fewer annoying interruptions.

• Some websites will still show plenty of advertising. That’s expected.

Why Built-In Blocking Makes Sense

Raj changed the setting after getting tired of reopening the same five tabs every morning because an ad kept covering the content he wanted to read. He didn’t install an extension. He changed Chrome’s setting and went back to work.

And that’s probably the best reason to start with Chrome’s own feature. It’s simple. There’s less to configure, and you aren’t handing another browser extension access to your browsing activity.

So, Is Chrome’s Ad Blocking Enough?

For basic protection from aggressive advertising, yes. I’d enable it before installing anything else. It takes very little effort and quietly handles the worst offenders.

Start With Chrome’s Ad Settings Open Chrome on your computer and click the three-dot menu in the top-right corner.
