You can move money while sitting on the sofa, check a payment before bed, or pay a bill without standing i">

Common Online Banking Frauds

Phishing is one of the oldest tricks, and it still works because the message often looks ordinary. You might get an email or text saying your account needs verification. The link takes you to a fake banking page where your login details are collected.

Then there’s OTP fraud. Someone calls pretending to be from your bank and creates a reason for needing the code. They may say a transaction is pending or your account needs an update. Once you share the OTP, the payment can happen before you realise what’s going on.

UPI and Payment App Scams

UPI fraud has its own set of tricks. A fraudster may send a payment request and tell you that accepting it will put money into your account. It won’t. Approving a collect request usually sends money out.

Remote-access scams are another nasty one. The caller asks you to install an app so they can “help” fix a banking problem. After that, they may see your screen or manipulate the phone while you’re logged in.

SIM Swap and Fake Support Calls

SIM-swap fraud is quieter. A criminal gets a replacement SIM connected to your number, which can interfere with SMS-based banking alerts and verification. Fake customer-care numbers create a similar problem because people often search online and call the first number that appears.

Safety Tips That Actually Matter

• Check the web address before logging in. A familiar-looking page isn’t proof that you’re on the real banking site.

• Never approve a payment request just because someone says you’re receiving money. Read what the screen actually says.

• Public Wi-Fi feels convenient, but banking over an unknown network isn’t worth the gamble. Use mobile data instead when you’re unsure.

• Keep your phone and banking app updated. Those boring updates often fix security problems you won’t notice.

• Alerts turned on for every transaction. If money moves unexpectedly, you’ll know quickly instead of discovering it days later.

What to Do After a Fraud

If you notice an unauthorised transaction, act immediately. Contact your bank through its official channel and report the transaction. Don’t wait to see whether the money comes back on its own.

Change your banking password if your credentials may have been exposed. If you shared an OTP or UPI PIN, tell the bank exactly what happened. Speed matters because banks and payment networks may have processes for trying to stop or trace fraudulent transfers.

Common Online Banking Frauds Phishing is one of the oldest tricks, and it still works because the message often looks…

[10

post-3587","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-mobile-device-protection
["GET
