Maybe they copied your name and profile photo. Maybe they’re messaging people you know while acting like they’re you. Either way, don’t ignore it.

Facebook has a reporting option specifically for profiles that impersonate someone. You don’t need to argue with the account first. Honestly, that usually makes things messier.

Choose the Impersonation Option

This is the important part. Select the option saying the profile is pretending to be someone. Facebook should then ask who the account is pretending to be.

What If Facebook Doesn’t Remove It?

If the account stays up, check Facebook’s reporting options again and use any available review or appeal process. You can also ask people who know you to report the profile if it’s clearly impersonating you.

Don’t send the imposter more information while you’re trying to prove who you are. If they’re asking for passwords, verification codes, money, or copies of personal documents, stop responding.

You should also tighten your own Facebook account security. Review who can see your posts and personal details. Turn on two-factor authentication if you haven’t already.

Finding a Facebook profile that’s pretending to be you can feel oddly personal.
