The page might be perfectly">

A website feels slow when the browser has to wait too long for files to arrive. The page might be perfectly built, but if those files are sitting on a server far away, the delay still shows up. A CDN changes where those files come from.

The Server Isn’t Always Close Enough

Say your website is hosted on a server in London and someone in Mumbai opens it. Their request has to travel a long distance before the server responds. The files then make the trip back. It happens quickly, but those tiny delays add up when a page needs several resources.

What Gets Delivered Faster?

• Images arrive from a nearby CDN server, which matters a lot when the original website sits halfway around the world.

• A cached CSS file is already waiting there, so the browser doesn’t need to fetch it from the main server every time.

• JavaScript can be delivered from the edge too, although badly sized scripts can still slow a page down.

Caching Is Where Things Get Interesting

The biggest speed boost often comes from caching. Once a CDN has stored a copy of a file, it can reuse that copy for later visitors. The main server doesn’t need to recreate or resend the same static file every single time.

And that becomes especially useful when lots of people visit the site at once. Instead of one server trying to serve everyone, requests get spread across CDN locations.

This is why a CDN can make a busy website feel noticeably smoother. You click something and the page just gets out of your way.

A CDN Also Reduces Pressure on the Main Server

There’s another piece people often miss. Every request that gets handled by a CDN is one less request hitting the original server.

So if a page suddenly gets a burst of visitors, the CDN can absorb a large amount of that static traffic. The main server gets more breathing room for the work that actually needs it.

A website feels slow when the browser has to wait too long for files to arrive.
