That’s the uncomfortable part. Deepfake tools have gotten good enough that staring harder at someone’s fa">

A video can look completely real. Still be fake. That is the part. Deepfake tools have become good enough that looking harder at a face will not give you information especially when the video clip is short or compressed.

Start With the Face. Don’t Stop There

Watch the person’s face closely. Observe the mouth as the person speaks. Does the lip movement feel off? Maybe a word seems to finish before the mouth does. Maybe the expression changes a fraction late.

Eyes can give you clues too. A blink that feels strange is worth noticing although video is not proof by itself. Skin can also look oddly smooth around the cheeks or forehead. But honestly video quality causes plenty of weirdness on its own so one strange detail should not settle the question.

Look at What Moves Around the Face

The edges are often more interesting than the face itself. Hair may shimmer for a moment. An earring can change shape. Glasses might sit strangely against the skin. Observe the area around the jaw and ears when the person turns their head.

Do not forget the background. A fake face can look convincing while the room behind it suddenly bends or blurs for a frame.

Listen to the Voice. Watch the Timing

A deepfake is not always about swapping a face. Some videos use speech too. The voice might sound clean but oddly flat. Certain words get much emphasis. Pauses appear in places where a real speaker probably would not pause.

Then watch the interaction. If a person appears to answer a question. Their reaction does not quite match what was said pause the clip. Rewatch that moment.

Check Where the Video Came From

This is the part people skip and I think that is a mistake. A convincing video posted by an account deserves more checking than the same clip published by a source with a clear record and context.

• No clear source. If nobody can explain where the clip first appeared that is a reason to stay skeptical.

• A strange caption can matter too especially when it makes a claim but gives you nothing solid to check.

• Search for the clip. Sometimes you’ll find the footage with different audio or a completely different explanation, which changes the story fast.

Use More Than Your Eyes

If something feels suspicious search the persons name alongside a phrase from the video. Look for the interview or a longer recording. Compare the speaker’s voice with known footage. You are looking for context, not one clue.

Don’t Trust a Perfect Looking Clip

Some deepfakes will not have glitches. That is why I would not rely on a checklist that says a strange blink means fake. It does not.

Instead treat clues as reasons to investigate. Then check the source. Find the longer version if you can. Because the strongest clue is often, outside the video itself.

A video can look completely real. Still be fake.
