Your phone starts acting weird. Maybe apps open slower. Maybe the battery disappears before lunch. Maybe there is a notification you don’t remember allowing. That little feeling that something is off is usually what makes people start checking.
Start With Google Play Protect
Open the Play Store, tap your profile picture, and find Play Protect. Run a scan. It checks the apps installed on your phone and looks for behavior that does not belong there.
• A quick scan from Play Protect, which takes only a moment when your phone feels suspicious
• The app list deserves a look too. Anything you don’t remember installing should make you pause for a second.
• A security app from a trusted company is fine, though I would skip the flashy ones that scream about danger every five minutes.
Check Apps That Look Out Of Place
Malware often hides behind normal looking names. A flashlight app from years ago. A cleaner tool you forgot about. Something that asks for permissions it clearly does not need.
Go into Settings and review your apps. Look at recent installs first because that is usually where the problem starts. If an app has access to things that make no sense, remove it.
Because a calculator app does not need your microphone. A wallpaper app does not need to read your messages. Your phone already knows this stuff. You just need to look.
Look At Permissions Before Deleting Everything
People often jump straight to a factory reset. I think that is too extreme as a first move. You lose time setting everything up again, and sometimes the actual problem is just one bad app hiding in plain sight.
Check app permissions inside Settings. Remove access from anything that feels unnecessary. A game asking for storage access might be normal. A random app asking for contacts and accessibility control deserves more attention.
• Accessibility access is the one I take seriously because harmful apps love hiding behind powerful permissions.
• Battery usage tells a story too. A small app draining energy in the background is worth investigating.
Scan Deeper If The Problem Stays
If Play Protect finds nothing and your phone still feels wrong, run a scan with a well-known mobile security app. Stick with names that have been around for years. I would rather trust a boring security tool than a colorful app making huge promises.
Before scanning, update Android and your apps. Old software gives malware more room to move. Updates close those gaps quietly, which is why people ignore them until something breaks.
Also check your Google account activity. Sometimes the phone is fine and the real issue is a stolen login. A quick review of signed-in devices gives you another clue.
After cleaning things up, change important passwords from a safe device if you believe malware was involved. Your phone should feel normal again, not like you are constantly watching it.
