Start With Silence Unknown Callers

The easiest option is already built into your iPhone. Open Settings, tap Apps, then Phone. Look for the setting called Silence Unknown Callers and turn it on.

After that, calls from numbers that aren’t saved in your contacts will be silenced and sent to voicemail. Your iPhone still keeps a record of the call, so you won’t completely lose track of what’s happened.

There is one catch. If you regularly get calls from new clients or delivery drivers, this setting can be a little too aggressive. You might miss a genuine caller. For a personal phone, though, it’s one of the best settings you can switch on and forget about.

Use Your Carrier’s Spam Protection

Your mobile carrier may have its own spam-call filter. These services can identify calls that look suspicious before your phone rings, which is useful because blocking one number at a time gets old fast.

Check your carrier’s app or website for its call protection options. Some features are included with your plan. Others may cost extra, so don’t assume you need the paid version.

A Small Setting Worth Checking

On newer iPhones, you may also see Call Blocking & Identification in the Phone settings. If your carrier or a supported call-identification app offers protection, this is where that feature can work with your phone.

• A good first move is Silence Unknown Callers, especially if most calls from strangers are junk anyway.

• Blocking one repeat spam number takes seconds, though it won’t stop the next number they decide to use.

• Carrier protection is often the better long-term choice because somebody else is doing more of the filtering.

• If you’re expecting an important call from someone new, leave unknown calls available for that period. You can always turn the setting back on later.

Don’t Answer Just to Check

Raj started getting several fake delivery calls during lunch. He’d answer because he was waiting for a package, then spend a minute listening to a recorded message before hanging up. Eventually, he turned on Silence Unknown Callers and stopped reopening the same five tabs every morning to check which number had called.

That small change made his phone feel quieter.
